Assignment #3:
1)
How
do people learn?
-
People learn from many different ways. Many
people especially children learn new ideas by relating them with things that
they already know, and they are able to transfer this information into their long-term
memory. Also people learn and remember information
by experiencing what they are learning, and by being hands-on. The opportunity
allows for them to be motivated, and make what they are learning come alive.
-
Having structure, and creating safe environment
allows for people to have “organization” with the learning process. There are
people that are more visual learners, others are more listening learners, and being
hands-on and experiencing things. I tend
to believe more in Howard Gardner’s theory of Multiple Intelligence, and that
there are many different types of ways people learn.
2)
How
can learning inform teaching practice?
-
Learning can inform the teaching practice
by first understand the student’s needs. Every student has a different learning
style. Cognition and behavior are two factors that contribute to how teachers
can use this information for their learning practices. With behaviorism, it’s a
bit easier for teachers to be able to observe the student’s interactions with their
peers, lessons, and activities. Cognition is the mental process of how students
process and gain knowledge, and also how they understand what they have
learned. There are steps to cognition
which are:
· Thinking
· Knowing
· Remembering
· Judging
· Problem
solving
Getting children ready to
learn, teachers need to expose them to different types of activities, and to
promote different skills. The skills are:
· Reading
· Writing
· Math
· Science
· Socialization
